Cool! how much does it cost though?
okay I am not a technology person!……. does one purchase the ebooks and are they cheaper than buying one or not?
Thanx!
Yes you need to buy the ebooks, and for the most part i think they are cheaper than the hardbacks. The idea is more like having a mobile library at your disposal. Great when you are traveling and such.
can kindle read to you, is it audio? I have a son who need his textbooks on audio
The Kindle is currently text based and is aimed to be a replacement for hardcopy books. The new Kindle 2 however has text recognition software that reads aloud.
I’d advise you check out the specs online http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00154JDAI/ref=sv_kinh_0

I am researching kindle for a friend of mine who has lost the sight in his right eye and has reduced sight in his left eye. He is able to read a newspaper with the aid of a magnifying glass. Can the font be emboldened and enlarged the latter to what size font? the new kindle that I have read about does it have the facility to “speak” the book? My friend has type 1 diabetes and could benefit hugely from this device. May I ask can he download the daily Irish Times newspaper published here in Ireland
This gadget is mind-boggling in its complexity, something that might even fascinate a highly intelligent Martian. I expect it will become popular with gadget-minded techies (and G… knows there are enough of them around) but I can’t see it ever being the mainstay of a true book person.
The magic of having a book in the hand, particularly something like the old Penguins/Pelicans, can never be superseded. It’s the feel of the thing as much as the content.
But Iwish Amazon the best of luck with this thing, - they are a great company.
Great piece of kit - but won’t replace the paperback.

No thank-you, I much rather feel my books and keep them in my library or give them to friends and family. I think how said that we are having everything become so impersonal, people talking on cell phones while checking out at stores, texting while going out to dinner,at least with a real book you can(and should)put it down and talk to others while waiting for a service. Now people can read a book, talk on the phone and completely have no emotional attachment to anyone.
